Every project begins with an idea and a sketch. This is the basic premise for every design and multi-layer themed room. Sometimes the concept is a slam dunk, the ideas flow, the room takes shape almost organically as if it was meant to be. The Candy Factory Room was one of those projects! From the moment I met the family and discussed the type of theme and direction for their playroom, it was evident that this room was going to be big and over the top, perfect for our style. Playrooms are always great rooms to design for kids. These rooms are all about family fun, but also require a creative space for storage, TV time, games, and sometimes needed for extra sleep over space. This type of multi-purpose playroom can create many design challenges but also lend itself to some really unique design features.
Here are some of the requirements my clients asked for when planning this project:
2. Craft area
3. Art area
4. Tunnel with hidden passage
5. Free standing entry and door into the room (this is the tricky part)
Below is a glimpse of the original concept art presented to the family. I use the concept art as a jumping off point, but rarely does it do the final room justice.
Stay tuned as I dive deeper into this project and give you insight as to how we took this concept to completion!
